The story is written from an outside view giving a different perspective than that of the characters depiction.
Newton was a quiet, rural community with a strong emphasis on family and values. The town was surrounded by rolling hills and farmland, and therefore many residents worked in agriculture. Things have been quite for a long time but after a short time a new family moved in. In a town as small as this people were sure to take notice of small changes like this, at first the residence were welcoming to the new family, the Cathars were a quite family and often kept to themselves. Over time rumours would spread and people came to learn that the Cathars only child, Edward, was known as a troublemaker in their hometown of New York, not to be confrontational the townspeople didn’t speak up however people would start to separate themselves from this family.
One day, a new house appeared on the outskirts of the town. It was an old, decrepit-looking house that seemed to have materialized overnight. Nobody knew who owned it or how it got there, but it quickly became the talk of the town. There were whispers about something dark lurking within the house, some superstitious even saying that the new family caused this strange occurrence. Despite the rumours, one child decided to sneak out and explore the house. Upon reaching the far out house Edward noted its odd appearance. The house looks like it has been untouched for years, with its faded and peeling paint, broken windows, and overgrown lawn. It gives off an eerie feeling that sends shivers down your spine, never the less Edward wasn’t one to backdown. The wooden stairs leading up to the porch creaked under his feet as he cautiously stepped onto them. The porch is littered with fallen leaves and debris, and the old rocking chair that once sat there now lies on its side, broken and rusted. Unbeknownst to him at this point it was already too late tunnel vision made Edward blind to the fact that around him the air almost thickened creating a thick mist like barrier around the house. Anything that touched this mist was exhausted falling to the ground crumbling into a pile of ash. It would still be some time however before anyone else would come to learn what is happening out in these far reaches of town, but it didn’t matter at this point Edwards fate had already been sealed, he would face the same terror that has been creating hell for him his entire life.
