Production Piece Additional Notes No.4

Initially the lantern model consisted of just the frame, however, I decided to and a candle as I thought the frame wasn’t enough by itself. To create the main frame of the lantern I utilised the append to polygon tool in conjunction with deleting faces of the polygon. I decided to do this instead of using multiple objects as the final product would look more polished in the end.

To simulated a candle fire I also used a point light, I had to make sure to place this carefully as otherwise the shadows of the object would be skewed.

The chains were the most unique object as far as creation goes. In order to create the sequence of chains I used MASH, this allowed me to create a path for the chains and generate the object multiple times without repetition. The three main parts of the MASH I created was the curve, replicator and distribute. As the names imply the curve is the path the chains follow, the replicator copies the original chain model into multiple iterations and the distribute distributes the polys across the chain.

In order to crate the chain pattern I used the replicator and created a pattern of 2 with a rotation on the x axis of 90.

The only problem I had with this method was that corners wouldn’t connect properly and I was unable to fix this so I kept the shapes of the curve fairly straight.
