Production Piece Additional Notes No.3

The cleaver went through two iterations during the design process. Initially I created a cleaver on a chopping board but later it changed to just a cleaver. I crated the first cleaver using two objects, one for the blade and one for the handle, the problem with this is that after researching further I found that the handle is formed over the top of metal from the blade. Therefore, after creating the first design I decided I would start again with a new one. I also believed that the cutting board wasn’t necessary as part of the design so I cut it.

The second time around I focused more on the shape of the blade to match real life designs. I started with a cube and made sure to extrude it to account for the handle, I created bends on the top and bottom making sure to stay uniform. I also created a hole as that was a common occurrence in the reference images.

The last thing I needed to do was texture it. In the refence images I noticed a difference in colour on the front edge of the blade and therefore I tried to mimic that using different materials in substance painter.

For the size of the coffin the design was fairly simple. I used two objects, for the box and lid, I shaped them from cubes to form the final shape and added an indent on the lid in the shape of a cross. The hardest part about creating the coffin was the texturing. In order to produce the textures required, I used masks in substance painter, this was my first time doing this and it took a lot of trail and error but eventually I managed to produce an outcome I was satisfied with.
