While researching different ideas I decided to create an object associated with Roman architecture. A common theme in a lot of Roman architecture is the use of pillars, therefore I decided I would try and incorporate a pillar in my design. Roman pillars generically are fairly simple in design therefore I decided to also incorporate the design aspects of other cultures, mainly the fluting and fillets on the shaft.

Keeping with the brief I used simple shapes in order to create the column. I gathered several lines in a row to represent the cylindrical shape of the column and rectangles to represent the capital and base of the pillar. As with the text, I also used the same colour pallet and added a shadow. Once I felt happy with the design I would then have to implement it into the design.

Using the alternate design I previously came up with as a base I decided to use the columns on the side of the text. Originally I planned on using a single pillar, however in practice two pillars looked better. Once I was at this stage I determined that the design needed one more feature to complete it.

My final addition was a roof in the style of a Roman temple. Once again I used simple shapes and oriented them in a fashion to create the look of a roof as well as changing the colour and adding a shadow. The use of the temple roof helps bring together the idea of worship towards a god.
With the roof included the final design was complete. I think the end product well represents the theme I originally started with and the changes made throughout the process are well justified.
